INSTRUCTIONS
This is the Module Information Booklet for this module:
Project 2_Infographic Video Animation
TIME FRAME: WEEK 01 - WEEK 07
DEADLINE: WEEK 07
INSTRUCTION:
Based on FLIP group topic research, produce a basic video
animation.
DESCRIPTION:
Using a processed design framework, you will now produce an infographic report to present the given information to a ‘target audience’ with the purpose of:
1. Creating awareness (such as Global Warming, Recycle, etc.)
2. Explaining a process (such as "how to" video)
3. Defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion", "What is Color Wheel", etc.)
Any time based media and software using photography, vector imagery.
Design Considerations:
● Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization
● Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles
● Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization
Output Expectation:
The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:
● Show causality
● Multivariate graphics and visuals
● Integrate word number and images
● Content count
● Within eyesight
● Use multiple charts
● Do not de-quantify
REQUIREMENT:
Video resolution: 1920px x 1080px HD (min 1.5 mins max 3 mins)
SUBMISSION:
1. A ± 3 minute animated infographic uploaded into YouTube (unlisted)
2. Digital compilation into your Google Drive Folder
3. Online posts in your E-portfolio as your reflective studies(Please attach the E-Portfolio link here for submission.)

Idea
We have choose the theme of "Habitable Planet", which is inspired by the
video,
What Makes A Planet Habitable by Science ABC II
Topic selection
In this project, we are aiming to break down what makes a planet
habitable, explore the conditions needed for life, and look at some of
the most promising planets beyond our solar system.
We think that this is both an interesting and educational topic. There is some obvious drawbacks from the original video which we can improve.
Video analysis
We seperated out role and set up timeline for this project:

Objectives
- Explain the concept of habitable planet in a simple and engaging way
- Discuss the essential conditions for life
-
Educate and enhance interest of audeince in astronomy
and science
Target Audience
- Student & educator
- Science enthusiast
- Space lover
Research
The research is divided into 5 main part, which are the main
content of our video:
- Using current issues/trends as intro (e.g. Mars migration/colonization)
- Brief introduction to the concept
- Characteristics of habitable planets
- Main factors contribute to making a planet habitable
- 5 Potential Earth like Planets
*The final version is edited due to duration issue.

Weekly Progress
Week 1:
In this week, we have decided the topic "Could We Find Another Earth ?". The illustrator team have come out with a few concept art as
the initial art direction.
Week 2:
This week, we have conducted research on the main content of the
project, focusing on gathering relevant information, analyzing key
themes, and identifying essential visual elements that will be
usded in the project.
Week 3:
In this week, we have completed a brief storyboard.
We digitized the selected mascot design in vector.

Week 4:
We are further refining the art direction by making key
decisions on the color palette, video style, and voice-over
approach. This process involves exploring various visual
aesthetics to ensure consistency and alignment with the
project's theme.
Additionally, we are evaluating different video styles, such
as animation techniques and pacing, to enhance
storytelling and audience engagement.
Here is the used animation techniques used consistenly in
AE:
- Time Remapping
- Enable Time Remapping → LoopOut ("cycle")
- Create looop animation.
- Wiggles
- xWiggle = 50;
- yWiggle = 10;
- speed = 1.5;
- x = value[0] + Math.sin(time * speed) * xWiggle;
- y = value[1] + Math.cos(time * speed) * yWiggle;
- [x, y];
- Keeping the elements in motion and dynamic.
- Pop out
- amp = 8; // Bounce intensity
- freq = 3; // Bounce speed
- decay = 5; // How fast it settles
- s = 40; // Default scale
- t = time - inPoint;
- p = s + amp * Math.sin(freq * t * 2 * Math.PI) / Math.exp(decay * t);
- [p, p]
- Making the key elements stand out and capturing audiences' attention.
- Animated grain effect
- Shape layers + mask
- Effect → Roughen Edges → Random Seed (Create animated grain)
- Effect → Fill (Change color of grain)
For the voice-over, we are considering
cheerful and lively tone, delivery, and narration
style.
For color palette, we use bright purple and dark blue to
capture a space, neon and dynamic vibe.

A few screen designs as main art direction:
Screen design
We plan the do the video in a
broadcast/streaming style, which mean the mascot will
guide the audience throught the content. This approach ensure
the video have a consistent art style and visual
cohesion.
Besides, it simplifies the animation process, and the
importantly enhance audience engagement by providing a more
immersive way in deliver information.
Video composition
Week 5:
In this week, we have done the illustration and graphics we
needed for the videos.
Icons
Graphs & Data
Week 6:
Animation was done in this week, we proceeded to finalize the
video by adding subtitle, music and sound effect.
Animation
Week 7:
In the final week, we double checked the video quality. We
adjusted the pacing of the video by editing out some
unnessary part.

FEEDBACK
Week 3:
- Proceed with the selected topic.
Week 5:
- Finish the script and voice over first, animate the elements based on the dubbing.
- Make the background loops.
Week 6:
- Make the intro less complicated.
Week 7:
- Overall, the video is good.
- The looping background make the video looks consistent.
- Try to make a shorter version (like trailer) , considered the user experience of the video
REFLECTIONS
To be honest, this project is quite challenging as it requires a combination
of multiple skills, including motion graphics, illustration, and research. A
brief understanding on each aspects are needed, I'm glad I have been paying
attention on each of it in the past semesters, so I'm not strange to the
process.
In my opinion, this project make me realize the important of T-shaped
skills/individual, which each individual has broad understanding
and uniquely positioned to contribute beyond their primary roles. It is
significant to distribute tasks to the right person in order to execute the
project effectively.
Balancing these aspects while maintaining a cohesive and engaging visual
narrative is no easy task. Another key challenge is determining the right
pacing for the video to keep the audience engaged throughout. If the pacing
is too slow, viewers may lose interest, while a pace that is too fast could
make the information difficult to absorb.
