INSTRUCTIONS

The assignment boils down to: building a fun game!

You may work solo or in a team. Note that In a team, every member will receive the same grade for the project, regardless of level of contribution. The overall expected scope of your project will be relative to the number of members in your team.

While the ‘official’ engine will be Godot, you are free to select your own game engine provided you have a good rationale for it. Note that “comfort zone” does not stand well as rationale for game engine selection, or any other decisions involved in the game development process. After all, the goal of any learning module is to learn and experience new things.

Your game can be of any category (FPS, RPG, casual, cozy, visual novel, etc.) as long as it can be produced within the semester. The only limitation is that no networked multiplayer can be part of the game mechanic, this is to avoid added complexity that will not fit our time constraint. Couch multiplayer however, is highly encouraged because games are usually more fun played with friends.

Your game can adopt any visual style, though those involving 3D assets are preferred since we are also covering Blender in this course. If you’re into 2D assets such as pixel art, 2D-HD art style is a nice middle ground. However, if you have strong rationale to make your game fully in 2D, that too will be accepted. Remember that “comfort zone” is not an accepted rationale. And in the case of making 2D assets, Pixelorama is a good tool.

Use of AI to help with asset creation is encouraged, but do credit accordingly. Treat the AI as your teammate, not just a tool. And if you’re looking for an almost-all-in-one offline AI interface, ComfyUI is a good one as long as you have decent hardware. With it you can generate 2D, 3D, and audio assets all under one streamlined interface.

FINAL GAME: PHYTO.

Game Overview

Phyto. is a 3D game inspired by the process of phytoremediation—the use of plants to clean up contaminated soil, air and water. In a post-nuclear world, the player roles play as a gardener to restore life to polluted islands.

The goal of Phyto. is to make nuclear pollution into a more approachable and interactive topic. By engaging players in the act of healing the planet, raise awareness on how humans are affecting the environment.

Game Prototype

The prototype cover the 2 main mechanics of the game:

  2. Rabid Movement
